Bergs Recovery · James Lawrence · April 2026
Prepared for: Bergs Recovery · James Lawrence Date: April 2026 Purpose: Understand why the Australian market chose Merican over Magique, and whether Bergs has a strategic opportunity with Magique
The Australian commercial RLT bed market is almost entirely supplied by Guangzhou Merican Optoelectronic Technology Co. Ltd. — not Zhengzhou Magique Huaer Biotechnology (Magique). Every named Australian seller researched (REDi Recovery, Therapy Lights Australia, Rebod) sources from Merican, not Magique. The two factories are separate, competing manufacturers with similar but not identical product lines.
Key strategic question: Nobody in Australia is bringing in Magique product. Bergs has an opportunity to be the first Australian brand to work directly with Magique — potentially on an exclusive distribution basis — while all existing competitors are locked into Merican.

Note: Merican M6N Plus has MORE LEDs and HIGHER wattage than the Magique LUM-R5500 on paper. This is counter to the assumption that Magique is the superior spec factory. The products are genuinely comparable with Merican actually posting higher power numbers.
Merican has had an active dealer/distributor program and Australian web presence for years. REDi Recovery, TLA, and others established their Merican relationships before Magique was on the radar of Australian commercial wellness importers.
Merican's factory listing on Global Sources (USD $16,890 for M6N-class) provided a publicly accessible wholesale reference price. Magique has no equivalent public price — buyers had to inquire directly, which slowed their market penetration into AU.
Merican's co-development-with-German-engineers story resonated with Australian commercial buyers seeking credibility. Magique's Taiwan Epistar + Japanese SMT story is technical and credible but doesn't have the same marketing hook.
Merican has explicit Dealer and OEM/ODM pages on their website with structured pathways. This made it easy for Australian importers to become official resellers. Magique appears to be more oriented toward direct-to-retail (US Gym Emotion model) than active dealer recruitment.
Merican describes ISO-compliant manufacturing. This matters for AU commercial buyers who want quality assurance. Magique's manufacturing certifications are less prominently promoted.
Once REDi and TLA locked in Merican supply, they had no reason to switch. New entrants into the Merican ecosystem (like Rebod) benefited from established relationships and logistics pathways.
Despite Merican winning Australia, Magique is not a weaker option:
Bergs could be the first Australian brand to bring Magique product to market, working directly with the factory on Bergs Recovery branding, potentially with exclusive Australian distribution rights.
If Merican has aggressive exclusivity clauses with existing AU resellers, that could limit Bergs' ability to become a Merican reseller. However, this risk does NOT apply to Magique — which has no known Australian presence and no existing AU distribution agreements.
